  • Sunderland tabled an offer for Jozy Altidore, AZ Alkmaar technical director Earnie Stewart tells MLSSoccer.com. It's the only club with a formal offer that is being considered, although club management with, presumably, the player's input, already rejected multiple inquires from teams including Dinamo Kiev. Altidore is going big or staying home, apparently.

  • The Gold Cup starts on the 7th and Fox Soccer has a preview: "The Americans want revenge, plain and simple. But Klinsmann has also stacked his squad with one-time national team contributors who will get a final tryout for next summer’s World Cup in Brazil. "You want to win a confederation competition," he said recently. 'It’s a huge competition in terms of being one year away from the World Cup and being able to see our players.'"

  • What's that? American Soccer Now has an entire Gold Cup channel? Yeah, we're the best.

  • Get better:

  • In soccer writer news, Sports Illustrated hires Brian Straus. That's great news for the American audience.
