ASN Morning Read: Mondays Are for Audacity
Someone in MLS scores a ridiculous goal and it's too good not to post. The United States national team head coach calls his troops for the final World Cup qualifiers. Herculez Gomez finds his place.
Okay, moving on. Jurgen Klinsmann named 20 players for the qualifiers against Jamaica and Panama. Michael Bradley, Clint Dempsey, and Fabian Johnson will miss the two matches with an injury but Landon Donovan, Jozy Altidore, Tim Howard, and plenty of other strong Starting XI options are in the group. Those not getting the call, however, include Eric Lichaj, DeAndre Yedlin, Chris Klute, and Timothy Chandler. So yeah. Food for thought:
Klinsmann on Dempsey: "For Clint, it is really important to pick up the rhythm, to get back into shape and play games. He needs to train very intensely and get as many sessions as possible. He had injury problems, the transfer was done late and he didn’t have a proper preseason, and he’s running behind. So he has to do some catching up and he will eventually get it done."
One man not making the roster is Herculez Gomez. But he lands a feature in Sporting Nation, which is almost the same thing? "I more than anybody know just because you start the cycle, doesn't mean you get to finish it," he says.
