Was it worth the wait?

United States men's soccer coach Jurgen Klinsmann held off until the last-possible moment to announce his roster for Wednesday's Hexagonal opener in San Pedro Sula, Honduras. Here is the complete squad:

GOALKEEPERS (3) : Brad Guzan (Aston Villa - 5/3 SO), Tim Howard (Everton – 22/9 SO), Sean Johnson (Chicago Fire – 0/0)

DEFENDERS (9): Matt Besler (Sporting Kansas City – 0 caps/0 goals), Carlos Bocanegra (Racing Santander – 31/5), Geoff Cameron (Stoke City – 5/0), Edgar Castillo (Club Tijuana – 0/0), Timmy Chandler (Nuremberg – 0/0), Brad Evans (Seattle Sounders – 0/0), Omar Gonzalez (LA Galaxy – 0/0), Fabian Johnson (Hoffenheim – 3/0), Michael Parkhurst (Augsburg – 3/0)

“We want to have a sense of urgency right from the start of the Final Round," said Klinsmann. “We have a lot of respect for Honduras, but our message to the team is that we are going there to get three points. One thing we learned from the Semifinal Round is that you have to bring the right mentality to play in the tough games on the road, and I’m confident we are ready to do that.”

American Soccer Now will have much more on this roster, projected lineups, player interviews, tactics, and more. ASN Deputy Editor Noah Davis is in San Pedro Sula, Honduras, now and will be bringing you up-to-date coverage before, during, and after the contest.

This roster announcement also signals the beginning of ASN's Starting XI contest. If you've already tried our Starting XI tool, which lets you choose formations and then drag and drop players into position, you know how fun it can be. Now, however, we are going to reward you for participating.

The soccer fan who does the best job of predicting Klinsmann's Starting XI across this year's Hexagonal tournament will win a week in Rio de Janeiro during the 2014 World Cup, VIP hospitality, and two tickets to a World Cup match—for free. For details, rules, and to get started, click here.

We are also offering a similar prize via our Facebook sweepstakes. Just Like us on our ASN Facebook page, complete the entry form, and you could be doing the Samba in the stands next June.
