Jozy Altidore to Lazio? Schalke? Anyone? Anyone?

The United States national team striker is reportedly drawing interest from a few teams in Europe. Movin' up, movin' on; Tim Howard and Alex Morgan talk the future; the U-20s lose.

  • Tim Howard and Alex Morgan talked to USA TODAY Sports about the future of U.S. soccer. "In order for us to be taken seriously as a soccer nation, we need to be playing at the end of the tournament, whether that's the final or the semifinal," Howard said. "People have tried to put a timeframe on it forever; we just have to keep moving forward." If you’ll remember, Howard referred to Project 2010 as a “pipe dream,” so he seems to feel the same about timetables as he did about Belgium’s first goal Wednesday.

  • Unfounded transfer speculation time! Lazio and Schalke are supposedly interested in Jozy Altidore, while Clint Dempsey’s agent says that transfer rumors surrounding Dempsey are untrue. Yay, offseason.

  • The U-20s played its second match of the Toulon Tournament, 2-1 to Colombia. Danny Garcia scored for the U.S. in the seventh minute, but Colombia netted in the 44th and 49th. Any hopes of placing in the tournament seem to be over with the loss, as the U.S. now sits six points behind France and Colombia with two matches left to play. What up, highlights?
  • Tijuana bowed out of the Copa Libertadores in gut-wrenching fashion, failing to convert a penalty in stoppage time, finishing the match at Atletico Mineiro 1-1 but losing 3-3 aggregate on away goals. That sort of stinks. Edgar Castillo went the full 90 for Xolos.

  • Even though his club Mallorca needs a win and some other results on La Liga’s last day to avoid relegation, Gio Dos Santos is leaving to join up with the Mexican national team. He’ll probably miss Friday’s friendly vs. Nigeria but should be good to go for Tuesday’s World Cup qualifier at Jamaica. Who knows, maybe Mexico can score a goal. ZING.

  • With the game against Germany just two days away, we feel obliged to shamelessly plug our interactive starting XI tool . Should Altidore be starting? Where would you play Geoff Cameron? Plenty of questions for you to answer.
