Here are the 23 U.S. Players We Want in January Camp

In the unlikely event Jurgen Klinsmann needs some advice on whom to include in this January's U.S. national team training camp, ASN editors have kindly created this list of recommendations.

SO WE PUT OUR HEADS together here at ASN and came up with a 23-man roster for January's U.S. national team training camp. This isn't our prediction for the camp—these are the players we'd like to see called in next week.

We only included athletes currently playing in the United States (MLS, NASL) or Scandinavia because club obligations prevent players in Mexico and most European countries from participating. And due to our strong belief that Jurgen Klinsmann should focus on those who have a legitimate chance to contribute at the 2018 World Cup, we decided not to consider thirtysomethings like Kyle Beckerman, Brad Davis, Nick Rimando, and Chris Wondolowski.

Our team is listed below. Click on any name you see in red and you will be taken to an article arguing for that player's inclusion in the camp. We hope you'll check out each piece, and we are depending on you to critique our choices and tell us where we went astray.

GOALKEEPERS

Bill Hamid
Steve Clark
Sean Johnson

DEFENDERS

Matt Besler
Robbie Rogers
Matt Hedges
Andrew Farrell
Michael Parkhurst
Omar Gonzalez
Jermaine Jones

MIDFIELDERS

Kelyn Rowe
Graham Zusi
Lee Nguyen
Luis Gil
Perry Kitchen
Miguel Ibarra
Wil Trapp
Mix Diskerud

FORWARDS

Charlie Davies
Tesho Akindele
Gyasi Zardes
Clint Dempsey
Juan Agudelo

That's our squad—please tell us what you think.

We kept our roster to 23 but it's very likely that Klinsmann will bring in more than that. We left off Michael Bradley because he underwent foot surgery in late October. The folks who just missed out include Steve Birnbaum, Chris Schuler, Dillon Powers, Chad Marshall, Jack McInerney, Maurice Edu, and Amobi Okugo.
