Gooch Makes Professional Debut

Lyndem Gooch, 19, made his first-team debut with Sunderland in Tuesday’s 6-3 League Cup win over Exeter City in the second round of England’s League Cup.

The Santa Cruz, Calif., native stepped onto the field in the 58th minute and earned positive reviews from head coach Dick Advocaat, who said he was “very pleased with the young guys who came on.”

Gooch holds multiple passports and is eligible to play for both Ireland and England. Before his time with the U.S U-20 men's national team, Gooch once represented Ireland’s U-19 side for a pair of friendlies.

Zelalem adds value in Scotland

Two days after being introduced at Rangers FC, American teenager Gedion Zelalem made his debut for the storied Glasgow club. Rangers defeated third-tier Airdrieonians 5-0 in the Scottish eague Cup. Zelalem picked up two assists and contributed in the build-up to a third goal.

Zelalem, 18, is on loan from Arsenal through January. Though it might not seem glamorous to play in the Scottish second tier, there is simply no substitute for first-team minutes and Zelalem will have a chance to play in front of huge crowds alongside full-grown adults who are eager to return to the Scottish Premier League.

Cropper helps MK Dons advance

Cody Cropper made his second start for MK Dons in the League Cup, playing 120 minutes on Tuesday in a 2-1 extra time win over Cardiff City. The Georgia native made five key saves en route to the victory.

The third round will have added significance for Cropper who will face off against his former club Southampton on September 21.

Cropper is expected to be called up next week to play with the United States U-23 team for a camp in London that will feature friendlies against England and Qatar. Cropper is the frontrunner to be the No. 1 keeper for U.S. Olympic qualifying.
