ASN Morning Read: USMNT in MLS Makes a Mark

One man makes a huge save, another scores a goal, and a third undergoes yet another surgery. Plus, a glamour player on a glamour team nets a glamour tally and two men battle for league cups.

  • We begin on a sour note, as the long journey of Omar Salgado continues. He increasingly reminds me of another former No. 1, Portland Trailblazers center Greg Oden. Hopefully, Salgado's luck improves. He's definitely out for the U-20 World Cup.

  • Nick Rimando eats penalty kicks for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Also, last night at Gillette Stadium to preserve a 2-1 victory for Real Salt Lake over the New England Revolution.
  • Chris "Assist King" Wondolowski scored off his hip or his thigh or something in the 81st minute to give the San Jose Earthquakes a 2-1 win.
  • But Thierry Henry (note: Not American) topped them all with a bicycle kick to ice the New York Red Bulls' win over Montreal. Any time an MLS goal is the No. 1 play on Sportscenter, we're posting it: (If we're being super critical, it's sort of "eh" on the bicycle scale. But so elegant.)
