The U-17s beat Guatemala 1-0 behind a goal from Corey Baird to win Group C and advance to the quarterfinals. They’ll play Honduras on Sunday night with a spot in the U-17 World Cup on the line. Better the Catrachos than Mexico, the squad that won Group D. The Americans are the only team to qualify for every U-17 World Cup.
Clint Dempsey scored twice for Tottenham in the Europa League quarterfinals, but Spurs wound up losing the tie in penalty kicks against FC Basel. His second came in the 80nd minute, making it a 2-2 match and 4-4 on aggregate. Brad Friedel also went the full 120 for Tottenham as the squad's European run came to end. It could be a blessing, however, as the team can focus on securing a Champions League spot next season.

He's finally back in action with Hannover after a long injury layoff, and Steve Cherundolo hopes to get back with the national team. "I have been in permanent contact with Jurgen Klinsmann," Cherundolo said. "Klinsmann always inquired after me.” There’s been so much movement on the back line since his last appearance that it’s hard to gauge where the 34-year-old stands on the depth chart, but he's no. one or two for sure.
Stoke City manager Tony Pulis says Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale “would suit my style.” Brek Shea should be majorly offended.
