The United States women's national team does enough to get by their latest opponent; Jermaine Jones has a message for the ladies; Clint Dempsey has a conniption fit in the U.S. Open Cup.

  • Vic-tory: "On the back of a first-half goal by Abby Wambach, the U.S. has now finished atop Group D and will move on to the Round of 16 against a to-be-determined opponent."

  • Yep yep:
  • It's all about the backline, baby: "It's been 243 minutes since the United States women conceded a goal in the World Cup. Only Australian captain Lisa De Vanna has breached the U.S. back line, scoring the opener in the first match. Central defenders Becky Sauerbrunn and Julie Johnston turned in another important performance in a 1–0 win over Nigeria in the final group game here on Tuesday. The U.S. held Nigeria to seven shots, only two of which goalkeeper Hope Solo had to save."

  • Jermaine Jones has a similar point, albeit expressed in a slightly different manner:
  • Hope Solo is not a problem

  • Clint Dempsey seems to have ripped up a referee's notebook, which is a new one:
  • But don't worry, FIFA is still corrupt: "Swiss investigators are looking into 53 possible cases of money laundering and 104 incidents of suspicious activity in Swiss bank accounts as part of their investigation into the awarding of the 2018 and 2022 World Cups."
