ASN Morning Read: The Hangover Part IV

Does the loss in Cyprus look any better in retrospect? No? Well... yeah, we would tend to agree. But hey, it's another morning, meaning plenty of American soccer news from around the globe. Chin up, mate.

  • The United States men's national team fell to Ukraine 2-0. It wasn't pretty. At all. John Godfrey has player ratings. He refrained from using negative numbers, but we suspect he might have been tempted. John Brooks earned a 2, which is remarkable. At least it's only a friendly.

  • The highlights:
  • Jurgen Klinsmann stayed positive: "It would be totally wrong now to just criticize what went wrong. We had a lot to contend with; playing a completely new backline, playing some players who are in a difficult moment at club level, not having the same confidence that they usually have. So there’s still a lot of work to be done and to build on."

  • Clint Dempsey looked like an apathetic superhero while Jozy Altidore once again failed to impose himself. Martin Rogers wonders if they are running out of time in the starting lineup. We're gonna go with no and yes, respectively.

  • But hey, people seem to like the new U.S. jerseys. So there's that.

  • And the U.S. women tied Japan 1-1 to open the Algarve Cup. Sydney Leroux scored for the Americans. It's been 43 games since the USWNT lost a game.

  • Um, would you like to look at 39 photos from Carnival?
