  • The Houston Dynamo beat the Montreal Impact 3-0 last night, advancing to the Eastern Conference semifinals to take on the New York Red Bulls. Montreal was handed three(!) red cards and Will Bruin scored twice for Houston.
  • Leander Schaerlaeckens’ piece, taking a look at how the game needs to change its mindset. UConn coach Ray Reid had some strong words about changing the substitution rules. "My colleagues don’t want to do it because they’re barbaric," Reid said.”"But they need to change the substitution rule. The under-14s and under-16s and under-18s are playing controlled subs now. We’re idiots.” Seems like he feels rather strongly about this.

  • Speaking of Houston, Brian Sciaretta caught up with Brad Davis, who talked about his standing with the national team following his two-assist performance in the final World Cup qualifier. “Being able to get into that game in Panama and make a difference, yeah, that got to put some questions in the coach’s mind,” Davis said. “That’s has to make it difficult for the coach to leave you off.”

  • Michael Bradley came off the bench for the last 10 minutes of Roma’s 1-0 win over Chievo, the team’s 10th league win out of 10 games to start the season. They’re five points clear of Napoli atop Serie A.

  • The Chicago Fire hired former San Jose Earthquakes boss Frank Yallop, the 2012 MLS coach of the year.

  • Geoff Cameron rocked a pretty mean Jack Sparrow costume for Halloween:
