  • Yesterday was roster day and Klinsmann named his 23-man squad for the upcoming qualifiers against Costa Rica and Mexico. Aron Johannsson and John Brooks could be officially cap-tied with an appearance. A report out of Germany said Brooks would only be available for the Costa Rica match, but a U.S. Soccer spokesman told Liviu Bird otherwise.

Who do you think should start against Costa Rica? Let us know with the world-famous ASN Starting XI tool.

  • In Europa League action yesterday, Brad Friedel went the full 90 for Tottenham as they reached the group stage with an 8-0 aggregate win over Dinamo Tbilisi. Terrence Boyd was on the bench as Rapid Vienna made it through to the group stage. Meanwhile, Johannsson and AZ saw their match against Atromitos abandoned yesterdaydue to a stadium fire. Leading 3-2 on aggregate at the time, the match was completed this morning. Atromitos scored again, but AZ went through on away goals.

The draw was held this morning. Tottenham is in a group with Anzhi Makhachkala (Russia), Sheriff Tiraspol (Moldova) and Tromse (Norway). Vienna will face Dynamo Kyiv (Ukraine), Genk (Belgium) and Thun (Switzerland). AZ was drawn with PAOK (Greece), Maccabi Haifa (Israel) and Shakhter Karagandy (Kazakhstan).

  • Timmy Chandler says it’s his “goal” to play in the World Cup. Alright. He also plans to stay up late to watch the upcoming qualifiers. In hysterically-bad Google Translate: “He is the night beat around the ears to pursue the perhaps decisive qualifying match of his colleagues in Costa Rica via the Internet.”

  • The Champions League group stage draw was yesterday, with Jermaine Jones and Sacha Kljestan the lone Americans who will play in the world’s top club competition. Kljestan’s Anderlecht landed in Group C with Benfica, PSG and Olympiakos. Jones and Schalke are in Group E with Chelsea, Basel and Steaua Bucharest.

  • Mexico named its roster for the qualifiers. Nothing out of the ordinary. Still no Carlos Vela, which makes us laugh.
