  • A story in four tweets:

  • Julian Green could push for a first-team spot in the second half of the season, according to Bayern Munich sporting director Matthias Sammer. Green, 18, has netted 15 goals in 18 appearances with the reserves and debuted for the first team against CSKA Moscow in the Champions League.

  • Ruh roh:

  • Ruh roh, the NASL version: “The teams in our league have to make a decision whether they're interested in buying championships or making this a viable league that's respected throughout the world,” San Antonio Scorpions president Howard Cornfield said about the New York Cosmos swiping forward Hans Denissen.

  • This isn't American soccer but it is darn good writing. SI.com released another one of its co-branded articles with Roads & Kingdoms, this one written by Laurent Dubois about Africa and its effect on European Soccer: "This year, there will be two additional African teams in the competition: France and Belgium. If they are going to the World Cup at all, it is thanks to goals scored by the children of African migrants: Romelu Lukaku for Belgium, and Mamadou Sakho for France. I'm not sure if these old colonial powers deserve the help, but they've gotten it: Africa has come to the rescue. In fact, it might be worth giving new names to these two football teams: Françafrique and AfroBelgica, perhaps?"
