Whoa, dude. Tom Sermanni is out as head coach of the United States women's national team with director of development Jill Ellis taking over as interim. A source told the Washington Post that the players felt they weren't "learning anything, there’s no vision, no direction, nothing."
“I was completely blindsided,” Sermanni told SI.com late Sunday night. “Maybe I’m losing my intuitive and perception skills, but I didn’t sense a real unease in the team. But I could be wrong in that regard.”
The Arena da Amazonia hosted a match between Vasco da Gama and Resende last week, and 40,000 fans came to watch. No big problems to report other than a few pitch invaders at the end of the game. Oh, and the sound didn't work. But whatever. "We will analyze the images of the invasion to find out what went wrong and who was not paying attention at the time," Tiago Paes, an official charged with overseeing and spinning, said. The United States players Portugal on June 22.
