It’s silly season and most leagues are on winter break, but there’s actually some (fairly) concrete interest in a U.S. international from a big club. Borussia Monchengladbach is keen on grabbing Fabian Johnson next summer on a free transfer, and its interest was verified by Hoffenheim’s development performance center manager Alexander Rosen. Monchengladbach currently sits third in the Bundesliga, and is the former home of Michael Bradley and Kasey Keller.
As Eric Lichaj sees time at both fullback spots with Nottingham Forest, Doug McIntyre thinks that his versatility will keep him in contention for a World Cup spot until the final cuts are made in May.
It’s more than two months away, but the Americans in Tijuana are pretty amped up to face the Los Angeles Galaxy in the CONCACAF Champions League quarterfinals. Herculez Gomez played for the Galaxy and Paul Arriola came up through the youth system. “I love the time that I spent in LA, and I don't have an ax to grind, but I'm not part of LA now, I'm part of Xolos,” Gomez said. "And any chance I can, I will hurt LA. I will try to do everything I can do bury this team.” He’s scored nine goals against MLS teams in the last two editions of the tournament, so yeah…
