  • While last-place Sunderland was losing 5-1 at Tottenham, Jozy Altidore was dropped to the U-21 squad. They managed to beat Spurs 3-0 and according to the match report, Altidore "judged a high ball well to turn the Spurs defense before his powerful shot flashed agonizingly past the base of the post." Altidore was on the bench for Sunderland's previous match and last played for the first team on March 26.

  • Speaking to the media Monday, Sunil Gulati denied that the firing of women's national team coach Tom Sermanni was player-driven. "Our dialogue with the players is ongoing. Pretty regularly... we'll talk to players. We've had discussions with players, with staff, with people around the team," Gulati said. "This isn't a group of players coming to seek us out and saying, 'There's something wrong and we have to do something.'"

  • Two U.S. U-18 forwards turned professional in the last week, with Dembakwi Yomba signing for Atletico Madrid and Andrija Novakovich signing with Reading. Both most recently played with the U-18 team in the Copa del Atlantico in Spain two months ago.
