As we limp towards the end of February, a cult hero in the American soccer landscape nears his return from injury. Finally a bright light emerges from this cold, dark, place we call Planet Earth.

  • Gatt's back. The one-time United States national team rising star is ready to go: "After surgery, Gatt spent the rest of 2013 rehabilitating his knee. The following March he was back on the field training with Molde but disaster struck again when Gatt reinjured his ACL again and was forced into surgery in May. The injury meant another grueling rehab as well as another lost season. In fact, when Gatt learned of the diagnosis, Moldeā€™s trainer said that he would understand if Gatt decided to quit soccer. That conversation triggered an intense reaction from Gatt."

  • Many things happened in Mexico last night. One of them was that "US-born center back Ventura Alvarado started and played the full 90 minutes for America," who defeated Deportivo Saprissa 3-0 in the first leg of the Scotiabank Champions League quarterfinal.

  • Here's a positive article about Tim Howard. Here's a negative one. We're not saying CNN and Deadspin are predicable in their respective points of view. Wait, that's exactly what we are saying. Carry on.

  • Edgar Castillo and Atlas picked up one of the biggest wins of an American abroad in awhile. In the Copa Libertadores, Atlas defeated Atletico Mineiro 1-0 on the road in Brazil. Castillo was strong and went a full 90. Atletico Mineiro won the Libertadores in 2013 and had not lost a home Libertadoes game since 1978, a stretch of 20 games. Booyah.

  • Cute: If, for some reason, you'd like to watch the entire match, it's here:
  • Incredible: "On Wednesday afternoon, a billboard went up outside Red Bull Arena, advertising season tickets for the Cosmos, the highly ambitious NASL side that has big dreams for the upcoming season." Meanwhile, NYCFC does not have a marketing department.

  • And yet, he still can't get time:
