ASN Morning Read: Gold Cup Tune Up in Nashville

There's no shortage of American soccer this weekend, as the U.S. men have a final test ahead of the Gold Cup, while the women prepare for Sunday's World Cup final against Japan.

  • With just four days until the Gold Cup opener against Honduras, the United States takes on Guatemala in a friendly at Nissan Stadium in Nashville. The U.S. is unbeaten in the last 20 matches between the two countries, its longest unbeaten streak against anybody.

  • Michael Bradley will captain the team in the Gold Cup, taking over for Clint Dempsey. "Clint is about scoring goals," coach Jurgen Klinsmann said. "We need Clint Dempsey badly with the national team. We need him in a good spirit. What happened was a mistake, but it was the first red card in his career and a lot of people went at him. I think the best thing for everyone right now is to let him concentrate really on playing and doing what he does best."



  • Abby Wambach on the rematch with Japan: "I want us to remember what happened last time and use it as motivation. I want the players who weren't there to know that it's no fun coming out of a final having lost. And I want us to think about what we could have done, those tiny little extra bits of effort that might have made a difference."
