  • And scene: "I'm in a little bit of a daze, to be honest," Landon Donovan said after the LA Galaxy defeated the New England Revolution 2-1 to win MLS Cup. "There's a lot going on. Some obvious excitement, some sadness, uncertainty, and just pure joy for this team and what we did. It feels strange is the best way to put it. I'm just so proud of what this team accomplished this year."

  • The United States women's national team lands in the Group of Death along with Sweden, Australia, and Nigeria. Nailed it. Your thumbnail preview: This group is being called the Group of Death — it has the highest total of combined FIFA points, 7786, and includes three teams in the top 10 FIFA rankings. The No. 1-ranked U.S. will again face Sweden in group play; the Swedes defeated the Americans 2-1 in the 2011 World Cup, and this time Sweden will be led by former U.S. coach Pia Sundhage. Australia is an athletic team that could give the U.S. and Sweden tough games, especially with explosive forward Lisa De Vanna leading the offense. And Nigeria should not be overlooked. Its young, talented team includes Asisat Oshoala, the winner of the 2014 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup Adidas Golden Ball.

  • In a sign that MLS never sleeps, the Philadelphia Union traded Amobi Okugo to Orlando City for allocation money. The expansion club believes “he is one of the best holding midfielders in the league and they want him to hold for Kaka and think it can be a tremendous partnership.”

  • Jurgen Klinsmann won't let Tim Howard eat peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. Or he will, but they taste different. Or something. This whole thing is getting out of hand.

  • Friendly schedule! The U.S. plans to play Chile, Panama, Denmark, Switzerland, Mexico, the Netherlands, and Germany before the 2015 Gold Cup. Damn son.

  • That is certainly one way to look at the whole thing:
