ASN Morning Read: A Chance for the LA Galaxy

The Seattle Sounders couldn't get it done in the CCL, thanks in large part to the efforts of Herculez Gomez, but Omar Gonzalez, Landon Donovan, and co. try to make history in Mexico.

  • The Herculez Gomez show did it again in the CONCACAF Champions League, as Santos Laguna held on for a draw that was good enough to defeat the Seattle Sounders in the two-leg semifinal. The American forward was initially credited with his team's only goal, but the decision was later reversed after officials ruled that Colombian Carlos Darwin Quintero's free kick had gone over the line before Gomez headed it home. No matter: finals, baby.

  • But serz, everyone loves Gomez:

  • Santos Laguna will take on the winner of Wednesday night's LA Galaxy-Monterrey match in Mexico. The MLS club needs to overcome a 1-0 deficit to advance, a tall task indeed. Luckily, the squad has some tiny little supporters on its side. Or maybe they really just like Omar Gonzalez:

  • The U.S. women easily dispatched The Netherlands, thanks to two goals from rising star Christen Press.

  • Would you like to watch Mix Diskerud take on world chess champion Magnus Carlsen? Yeah, we thought you would. Spoiler alert: Mix gets thrashed, although maybe not as bad as you might expect(?). The best part is all of it, but especially when Diskerud's teammates applaud after he takes a pawn. (h/t @ArnoldcommaJon)
