LOST IN ALL THE NEWS about the U.S. national teams, the U-20 World Cup, Toulon, Clint Dempsey’s suspension, and the ongoing criminal investigations at FIFA has been a busy start to the transfer season for many Americans. In case you missed some of the latest developments, here's a quick roundup.

Will DeAndre Yedlin Switch Teams?

One of the more interesting stories among full United States national team players to follow this summer is what will happen with Tottenham right back DeAndre Yedlin. A loan deal has emerged has a real possibility. That would seem to make the most sense in getting Yedlin playing time although loans can always be a mixed bag since the club taking the player must have a clear and present need for him – they have no stake in his future development.

One rumor that has emerged according the U.K.’s Telegraph is that Yedlin could be heading to recently promoted Premier League side Norwich.

Yedlin definitely needs playing time and nearly all of his minutes this year have come with the U.S. national team—with which he has played very well. Norwich currently has a reliable right back with Steven Whittaker but there appears to be a need for a player who could play on the right wing. Will it happen? It’s the silly season so there is no telling what is serious yet and things change very quickly.

Stuttgart interested in Bobby Wood

Following Aue’s relegation to Germany's third tier, Bobby Wood’s loan ended and the Hawaii native was once again an 1860 Munich player. There are legitimate concerns, however, about whether or not Wood wants to remain at 1860, the club he has called home since his mid-teen years. Wood's falling out with the club during the 2014-15 season was very heated and well publicized.

Bild reported last week that Wood was set to join Stuttgart for €1.2 million. While that deal has not been announced and other reports suggest other clubs are still interested, Stuttgart is apparently keen on the U.S. national team forward who recently scored two late game-winning goals against the Netherlands and Germany.

Wood will not be part of the Gold Cup team for the United States but perhaps that is for the best. He will now have a full preseason to integrate himself what will likely be a new team.

U.S. fullbacks to sign first pro deals

The U.S. U-20 team performed well at the World Cup this summer and right back Desevio Payne was one of the team’s standout players. Before the tournament, ASN reported that Payne and Groningen agreed to terms for his first professional contract. That deal will be inked when the Dutch side begins preseason in early July.

U.S. U-18 left back Antonee Robinson also received a bit of good news when Everton offered him a professional contract. Holding both American and British passports, Robinson has played for the U.S. internationally and was recently named Everton’s U-18 team player of the season for 2014-15.

Robinson will now look to also carry over his success to the U.S. U-20 team as it prepares to begin its 2017 World Cup cycle later this year.

Hertha offer Brooks long-term extension

John Brooks, 22, has grown up in Hertha Berlin where he joined the club’s youth system at a young age and has risen all the way to become an integral part of the first team.

It hasn’t always been a smooth ride. While the Berlin native has been a part of the team’s promotion to the Bundesliga in 2013 and the successive seasons to stay in the top flight, there have been times when he was benched for poor form or lack of focus. His talent, however, is unquestionable and his performances in 2015 since the end of the German Bundesliga winter break have been very strong.

Hertha has recognized Brooks’ improved consistency and has rewarded him with a contract extension offer that will run through 2019.

Kiesewetter promoted to first team

In March, U.S. U-23 forward Jerome Kiesewetter made his Bundesliga debut for Stuttgart at a time when the coach wanted to shake things up at the then-struggling club.

Now, the German-born Kiesewetter has been promoted to Stuttgart’s first team on a permanent basis beginning with this preseason. His solid showing with the U-23 team in Toulon and more Bundesliga minutes on the horizon, Kiesewetter is a player American fans should keep an eye on as U-23 preparations for the Olympic tournament approach.

Christian Pulisic off to strong start

U.S. U-17 attacking midfielder Christian Pulisic has officially joined Borussia Dortmund and it's fair to say that the Hershey, Penn., native has made a great first impression.

In eight games with Dortmun's under-17 team he has scored six goals and notched five assists, helping the club win the German title for this age group.

Due in some part to those staggering numbers, Pulisic, 16, will join Dortmund's U-19 team season next season and will certainly be part of the U.S. U-17 World Cup team that plays in October. Soon after that tournament Pulisic is likely to make a quick transition to the U.S. U-20 team as the 2017 cycle gets underway.

A break for Josh Gatt?

The last two years have been brutal for Josh Gatt as consecutive ACL injuries have kept him off the pitch for his club team, Molde, as well as Jurgen Klinsmann's U.S. national team. The once-promising U.S. national team winger made his return to the field in May for the first time since 2013 but just four minutes into his shift he went down with yet another injury.

While most news surrounding the Michigan native is usually due to his injuries woes, on Thursday the Michigan native tweeted that his latest injury is not serious.

It would be a great story indeed if Gatt, 23, can get healthy, stay healthy, and return to the form he has flashed  from time to time.

Yanks Move Around Liga MX

  • Edgar Castillo parted ways with Atlas and joined Monterrey—the eighth Mexican club of his career.

  • Atlas replaced Castillo, 28, with fellow American Greg Garza, 23 who joins the club on loan after an impressive run at Club Tijuana.

  • Joe Corona also parted ways with Tijuana and is now with Veracuz which is coming off a quarterfinal appearance in the Liga MX playoffs.

  • A pair of U.S. youth internationals dropped down to Mexico's second tier: U.S. U-23 forward Alonso Hernandez joined FC Juarez on loan from Monterrey. FC Juarez is less than a month old and will give Hernandez a chance to play close to his hometown of El Paso.

  • Benji Joya failed to catch on with Santos Laguna so the California native signed with Necaxa, one of the biggest clubs in the Ascenso.

  • And just in case that wasn't enough movement to make your head spin, Michael Orozco has left Puebla and will join Tijuana, keeping the Mexican-American tradition alive at that club alongside fellow Yanks John Requejo and Alejandro Guido.

Shawn Barry Signs with Frankfurt

There's a longstanding tradition of American players bouncing around the lower leagues in Europe in pursuit of soccer glory. Occasionally one breaks through to a top league, as former University of Virginia defender Shawn Barry recently did.

Barry, 25, signed on with 2.Bundesliga side FSV Frankfurt on Friday—a big step up from the up-and-down Austrian club LASK Linz.

A consistent starter with LASK Linz in 2014-15, Barry caught the eye of Tomas Oral last season when the coach was considering becoming its coach. When Oral instead accepted the top job with Frankfurt, he brought Barry over to the 2.Bundesliga side.
