Yanks Abroad

  • The big news this week is the upcoming Champions League final on Thursday, which will feature Tyreso and Americans Christen Press, Whitney Engen, and Meghan Klingenberg. The Swedish club and its American trio will take on defending champions Wolfsburg for the title.

  • In France, Lindsey Horan scored twice in the Coupe de France semifinals last weekend as Paris Saint-Germain beat Juvisy 6-0 (her goals can be seen at the 1:03:05 and 1:24:27 marks of the video below). Horan scored again this weekend in a 3-0 Division 1 win over Rodez.

  • Sarah Hagen scored twice in an 8-0 win for Bayern Munich last weekend. She has been playing with a cast the past several weeks as she recovers from hand surgery.

    NWSL Action

  • Both Carli Lloyd and Abby Wambach scored over the weekend as the Western New York Flash lost to the Washington Spirit 3-2. (Wambach’s goal is at the 1:29 mark of the video below, Lloyd’s goal is at the 1:44 mark.) Yael Averbuch picked up the assist on the game-winning goal for the Spirit (4:36).

  • FC Kansas City’s 2-2 draw with the Houston Dash also featured two goals from U.S. internationals. Lauren Holiday scored the opener on a gorgeous pass from Erika Tymrak, and then Tymrak scored one herself on a terrific solo effort (Holiday’s goal can be seen at the 2:53 mark; Tymrak’s at 3:28).

  • Holiday and Tymrak also scored in midweek action in a 3-2 loss to the Seattle Reign. Holiday converted a penalty earned by fellow U.S. international Amy Rodriguez and Tymrak scored a bomb from distance (the goals can be seen at the 2:38 and 3:25 marks of the video below).

  • Heather O’Reilly also scored on a penalty this week as the Boston Breakers lost to the Chicago Red Stars 4-1.
