SANDY, Utah—Jurgen Klinsmann spoke with both managers and the media before the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup final, wishing Ben Olsen and Jason Kreis luck and giving reporters insight on his plans for the final two qualifiers.

He is expected to announce his squad Thursday but said while Clint Dempsey and Jermaine Jones will be in camp, John Anthony Brooks and Michael Bradley won't return from injury quickly enough to be included.

"I have spoke to Sigi a couple of times, and they expect him back on the weekend, and therefore we expect him back in camp on Sunday. We'll have to see where he's at," he said of Dempsey.

"John Anthony Brooks with Hertha Berlin, he will be out. He's not with the team back yet," Klinsmann continued. "Michael Bradley, I spoke to him this morning, he's also trying to catch up, it's not going to be in time for our two games because he's still not in training with his team in Roma."

One player who was initially thought to be out with an injury will indeed be in camp. German newspaper Bild reported Jones would miss time after undergoing surgery, but Jones and U.S. Soccer later clarified that he wouldn't be going under the knife.

"It's normal. In Europe, statements come out. There were going to be the opposite the next day," Klinsmann said. "The easiest thing was you call the player and you call the coach and you get the straight answers, so I knew already right away it's no problem."

Klinsmann also criticized the rush to report and declare a player's status before verifying all the facts.

"Sometimes I think we kind of react too fast here and say, 'Oh! He's out. He's this or that.' We better double check with the coaches directly," Klinsmann said.

With that in mind, ASN will continue to keep you updated on both the roster and the U.S. Open Cup Final.
