ONE NOTABLE ABSENCE from the U.S. men's player pool for the Iceland match will be D.C. United keeper Bill Hamid. After injuring his right knee in offseason workouts, Hamid was pulled out of the January camp roster and underwent surgery to treat a torn right meniscus. Last week the club ruled Hamid out for the next four to six months. He was all smiles in Carson yesterday though:

Jurgen Klinsmann brought in Chicago Fire stopper Sean Johnson to replace Hamid. If Johnson gets the nod this weekend it will be his first game since his season was ended prematurely by a labral tear to his left shoulder.

Another withdrawal from January Camp was San Jose Earthquakes youngster Fatai Alashe, who picked up a hernia injury. Last week the Quakes stated that the 22-year-old successfully underwent a procedure for it and should be back in four-to-six weeks.

Geoff Cameron’s ankle injury will keep him out of Stoke City’s FA Cup Fifth Round tie at Crystal Palace on Saturday, much to the frustration of the club and the player. "He's not progressing as quickly as we would like and Geoff would like himself to be perfectly honest," Potters manager Mark Hughes told the club’s website on Thursday. "He's a little bit impatient about it at the moment but it's one of those injuries where we felt it could either be resolved quickly or drag on a little bit.”

Werder Bremen striker Aron Jóhannsson is still on the mend from the nerve irritation in his right hip. Johannsson picked up the injury in September and has since missed Bremen’s last 12 matches. The club told American Soccer Now on Thursday that the 25-year-old’s condition is improving but added that it was not possible to say when he would return to team training.

Tijuana’s Greg Garza showed off the progress he is making after his multiple hip surgeries last year with this musical Instagram post on Sunday:

Garza has returned to his parent club after spending the Apertura season on loan at Atlas.

Garza’s teammate Alejandro Guido will sit out the entire Clausura after picking up an ACL and meniscus tear in training late December.

Finally, Philadelphia Union captain Maurice Edu is still on course to recover from the sports hernia surgery by the season opener, the club told ASN on Thursday. Edu emphasized patience and hinted at a possible positional change this season in preseason interviews recorded by the Philly Soccer Page on Thursday.
