UNITED STATES national team head coach Gregg Berhalter on Thursday announced a 20-player training roster ahead of the November window where the U.S. team will play the final two games of its CONCACAF Nation’s League group stages games.

This camp will run from November 2 through November 9.

With all but two teams still playing in MLS this season, Berhalter is having this camp in Bradenton, Florida to keep MLS players training. On November 10, the full camp will take place and European-based players arrive.

Not all of these players will make roster in November. Some might head to Spain to play with the U.S. U-23 team, others might simply not make the cut.

Training camp roster

GOALKEEPERS (3): Brad Guzan (Atlanta United FC; 62/0), Sean Johnson (New York City FC; 8/0), Matt Turner (New England Revolution; 0/0)

DEFENDERS (7): Reggie Cannon (FC Dallas; 9/0), Chase Gasper (Minnesota United FC; 0/0), Nick Lima (San Jose Earthquakes; 9/0), Aaron Long (New York Red Bulls; 14/2), Daniel Lovitz (Montreal Impact/CAN; 12/0), Mark McKenzie (Philadelphia Union; 0/0), Walker Zimmerman (LAFC; 11/2)

MIDFIELDERS (5): Brenden Aaronson (Philadelphia Union; 0/0), Sebastian Lletget (LA Galaxy; 12/2), Djordje Mihailovic (Chicago Fire; 5/1), Wil Trapp (Columbus Crew SC; 20/0), Jackson Yueill (San Jose Earthquakes; 4/0)

FORWARDS (5): Paul Arriola (D.C. United; 30/5), Corey Baird (Real Salt Lake; 4/0), Jeremy Ebobisse (Portland Timbers; 1/0), Jonathan Lewis (Colorado Rapids; 5/0), Gyasi Zardes (Columbus Crew SC; 54/10)

Not many surprises

In total, 18 of the 20 players have been called up to the U.S. team in 2019. The two debutants are Chase Gasper and Matt Turner. Gasper showed some promise this year at left back for Minnesota and Matt Turner was one of the better domestic goalkeepers this season for a New England team that battled its way into the playoffs after a terrible start.

Olympic flavor

It’s important to keep this group playing because many of these players are U-23 eligible and could play a big part in that team as well.

Seven of the 17 field players on the roster are eligible for the upcoming U-23 team: Reggie Cannon, Mark McKenzie, Brenden Aaronson, Djordje Mihailovic, Jackson Yueill, Jeremey Ebobisse, and Jonathan Lewis. These seven players all have a high degree of likelihood of being on the qualifying roster for March.

So, keeping these players active through a long offseason, when possible, is very important.

Who is likely to remain?

Not everyone from this list will make the November USMNT roster.

On the October USMNT roster, there were 11 players who were based either in Europe or on teams in the MLS Cup final. Most of those players will be back.

From Europe, we also know Sergino Dest will be an addition and John Brooks is likely to be an addition as well. Duane Holmes is possible. Antonee Robinson and Richie Ledezma are a little bit more unlikely given their potential integration into the U-23 team which will be in Spain. The one European-based player from October’s roster who is most in jeopardy of losing his spot would be Tyler Boyd who is struggling to get on the field for Besiktas.

From the MLS Cup finalists, Jordan Morris and Michael Bradley are locks to make the November roster. Roldan struggled in October and could be questionable. The health of Jozy Altidore remains a question mark.

Nothing is set, but it is easy to see six or seven players from this group not making the U.S roster depending on who is available from Europe and who is healthy.
