ASN Morning Reads: Robbie Rogers Laughs Last

The once (and future?) footballer finds an amusing magazine feature at his door; Don Garber talks MLS and world domination; a young American not named Jozy Altidore scores; so does Jozy.

  • With MLS First Kick coming this weekend, Don Garber addressed the world and offered his reasoned plan for getting MLS to be one of the top leagues in the world by 2022: "We spent some time talking among ourselves and with our board and I think all of us really believe that there isn't a code cracker here that is going to make soccer the most popular sport in America or one that is more competitive with the other leagues. It's just a lot of hard work and a lot of good thinking and a lot of continued investment. And rather than wait for some seminal moment that may or may not arrive we just thought it was time for us to depend on ourselves, get very focused with a very committed and passionate ownership group to go out and try and compete with the world's best." We're in.

  • Sacha Kljestan went 90 minutes but Anderlecht fell 1-0 to Zulte-Waregem. The club had been undefeated in league play since late October, a stretch that saw them go 13-0-2. All good things, etc. etc. etc.

  • Young Zach Pfeffer found the back of the net for Hoffenheim's U-19 club. Earlier this month, ASN's Brian Blickenstaff caught up with the young player and his American companion Russell Canouse for a feature. Good stuff if you want to know more about the two potential stars. (h/t)

  • Jozy Altidore scored two goals in AZ's 3-0 victory over Ajax. Encore? Encore. The first: The second:
  • Robbie Rogers. All class, that one.
