The long-rumored three-country bid for the 2026 World Cup was made official, with the United States hosting the vast majority of the 80-match tournament. Now, we wait.

  • North America officially announced its bid for the 2026 World Cup in New York on Monday. The proposal has the United States hosting 60 of the 80 matches – including every game from the quarterfinals on – with Canada and Mexico getting 10 each. U.S. Soccer president says FIFA will manage the rest of the details: “It’s their tournament.”

  • The decision is supposed to be made in 2020, but ESPN reports that CONCACAF is planning to make a proposal at May's FIFA Congress that could accelerate the process and maybe even get it done before the end of the year.
