ASN Morning Read: (Not So) Calm Before The Storm

  • Since we strive to give the people what they want, let's start with the new away uniforms, which were revealed Monday morning:

Nike has a full gallery including Clint Dempsey, Sydney Leroux, Alexi Lalas and for some reason, Andrew Luck and Ndamukong Suh sporting the jersey.

  • Plenty of news coming out of camp in Arizona on Monday, primarily the USSF announcing some coaching changes. Former Germany boss (and current Azerbaijan head coach) Berti Vogts will join the staff as a special advisor, while assistant coach Martin Vasquez will be reassigned within U.S. Soccer. Current U-20 coach Tab Ramos will also work with the senior team.

“With Martin it’s simply a professional shift,” Klinsmann said. “I have to make decisions with my staff to put them in the best spots where I think they are the best in order to hopefully do well this summer in Brazil. And sometimes it’s a shift that doesn’t please everybody. This is part of the head coach’s role. You’re not there to please everybody, you are there to hopefully put people in the best positions to get the job done and the job is getting out of the group stage this summer.”

  • Puebla is choosing not to release DaMarcus Beasley and Michael Orozco for Wednesday’s match and the duo isn’t being replaced on the roster and Klinsmann isn’t too happy. "When the match was scheduled, it was with the spirit that both teams would have access to their domestic-based players for what is a very important game for those competing for spots in the World Cup,” he said. “Both MLS and most clubs in Liga MX honored that idea." To be fair, it's not like Puebla had any Mexican internationals that were called up.

  • If all goes according to plan, Wednesday will be the first time that Michael Bradley, Landon Donovan and Clint Dempsey all play together since June 12, 2012. “It’s exciting, for sure,” Bradley said. “It doesn’t seem like it has been quite that long but it’d be good to hopefully get us back on the field together.” As Brian Sciaretta notes, the trio hasn’t started a match with Jozy Altidore since Jurgen Klinsmann took over in Aug. 2011.

  • Jozy Altidore was on the bench for Sunderland in a 2-1 loss to West Ham, watching 21-year-old Connor Wickham start in his place in the extremely crucial match. Sunderland sits 19th in the league, but has played two fewer game than the other teams in the relegation zone.

  • Orlando City Council unanimously approved the agreement for the construction of an $84 million stadium for Orlando City SC. The 18,000-seat stadium will be designed by Populous, the firm behind BBVA Compass Stadium and Sporting Park.
