  • Herculez Gomez went into Seattle and did what he does best, scoring the only goal in the first leg of the CONCACAF Champions League semifinal between Santos Laguna and the Sounders. "I was fortunate to get on the end of the rebound. That was pretty much all that happened. After that it was just a blur. It feels good coming back. The objective for us was to come out of here with a win. We wanted to definitely put them on their heels," he said of the tally. Classy guy, that one. Good stuff all around.

  • Elsewhere in the CCL, the Los Angeles Galaxy meet Monterrey with Landon Donovan in reserve: "I don't just get free minutes 'cause I'm back. I have to earn them. I'm aware of that, and I'll be ready to go whenever they need me."

  • In the European Champions League, Oguchi Onyewu's Malaga takes on Borussia Dortmund. The Wall Street Journal's Josh Robinson writes about the support the Spanish club receives from England. Weird.

  • Graham Zusi lands a nice little short feature on MLSSoccer.com highlighting his excellent play of late. The secret: "I think the team, right now, is playing with a lot of confidence. I think it showed this weekend." That's dull. Just once I wish a player would be like, "Yep, all me, fo' sho."

  • Carlos Bocanegra could be headed back to Rangers. Manager Ally McCoist hopes he returns to the big-time Scottish club that's languishing in and dominating the fourth division. What's better for Boca: a return to Ibrox or continued play at Racing Santander?

  • FIFA picks GoalControl-4D as its goal-line technology system of choice. It's cheaper than the other option, Hawk-Eye, but still costs more than $260,000 to install and $4,000 to operate per game. Michel Platini is still not impressed.
