ASN Morning Read: Oguchi Onyewu, College Student

The United States central defender is putting in work at QPR (worst expression ever), looking for a new club, and taking classes at Clemson. Ray Hudson would be screaming about that if he knew.

  • Ladies and gentlemen, Ray Hudson: "Hair uncombed and wearing a red, open-collar shirt, Hudson wraps himself in rapt anticipation of brilliant dribbling and passing. As a great play develops, he might inhale, stiffen his torso or thrust his head forward. When a goal looks imminent, he might point at the screen or shout. Missed opportunities are met with deep, audible sighs."

  • The Washington Post catches up with Oguchi Onyewu. He talks about life at QPR and going back to Clemson to try to finish his degree: "I finish training, take a shower, get home as fast as I can so I can do my work. It takes a lot of discipline and patience. I have to excel physically and then get home and excel mentally. I have to think about the future. Unfortunately, soccer careers don’t last forever."

  • Good news for Steve Cherundolo. One, he looks a bit like Derek Zoolander in this photo. And two, he is back training.

  • Eric Lichaj gets a feature in the Nottingham Forest magazine. “Right now is the most exciting time of my career,” he says. “With the way our squad is building I think we can finish in the top two. That’s what I want. Ever since I was young it has been my dream to play in a World Cup. I would do almost anything to be in that squad, however my immediate priority is to win promotion with Forest.”

  • In other U.S. defender news, Michael Parkhurst could come back to Major League Soccer. Good, we missed him and his non-fouling ways.

  • Would you like to watch MLS Cup in slo-mo? There's a joke there that we're not going to make because this is actually really, really cool:

  • U.S. Soccer is having some sort of NCAA tournament-style face-off to determine the best moment ever.

  • Damn, it feels good to be Omar Gonzalez:
