  • Stop us if you've heard this before: Stuart Holden will be out for an extended period of time due to surgery. Stuart Holden was awesomely and amazingly positive about the whole ordeal. Stuart Holden got engaged:

  • The Russians, clearly peeved about a petition from two U.S. senators to keep Russia out of Brazil, sent a letter to FIFA requesting the same thing. “It’s an eye for an eye, a ball for a ball. Don’t the let the USA take part in the 2014 World Cup! End their membership of FIFA,” Alexander Sidyakin and Michael Markelov wrote, which, I don't know, doesn't even really make sense. Also, don't you people have anything better to do? (We're looking at you too, Mark Kirk and Dan Coates.)

  • Remember that time Matt Besler and Graham Zusi adopted dogs from the same liter and got a writeup in the ASPCA newsletter? Besler names his dog Gipper, while Zusi chose Baci, meaning kisses in Italian. Everything about this is adorable.

  • Germany named potential future superdupermegastar Gedion Zelalem to its U-17 European championship squad. If he plays, he won't ever be eligible for the United States because he's not currently a citizen.

  • This is fun:

  • On Monday, "The Miracle of Castel di Sangro" author Joe McGinniss passed away. George Vecsey with a worthy tribute to a worthy man.
