  • Major League Soccer announced its timeline for further expansion with teams 25 and 26 being announced in mid-late 2017, starting play by 2020 with an expansion fee of $150 million. Teams 27 and 28 will be announced later. There are 10 ownership groups who have expressed interest: Charlotte, Cincinnati, Detroit, Nashville, Raleigh/Durham, Sacramento, St. Louis, San Antonio, San Diego and Tampa/St. Petersburg.
