ASN Morning Read: Let the Games...manship Begin

The soccer game isn't for another day, but the Americans are on the ground in Costa Rica and receiving a less than warm reception. Elsewhere, there's plenty of other news in the U.S. soccer world.

  • Costa Rica, still pissed about the snow game. The powers that be aren't making it easy for the U.S. squad. Even Deadspin is getting into the action with a little troll so hard, brah post. Ugh.

  • But it's not just the U.S. that's having trouble. A local English-language paper filed suit after getting its press credential denied by the Costa Rican Football Federation.

  • The referee for Friday's match is Mexican Marco Antonio Rodriguez and Klinsmann is none too pleased: "I don't doubt that Marco Antonio Rodriguez is a great referee. But at the same time there is something I can't get out of my head. I have eight players with a yellow card and four days later we face Mexico. Truthfully, I don't like this."

  • Tough life, Alejandro Bedoya:
  • ASN EIC John Godfrey asked why no one likes Jermaine Jones. After reading this FIFA.com feature about him, we wonder, too. He sounds great. "Things are different here in CONCACAF," he said. "It's hot, the fields are bumpy and the culture is totally different. But we can qualify for the World Cup. The fields will not be bumpy in Brazil, I assure you!"

  • Zac Lee Rigg has a nice piece on players trying to pick between the U.S. and another country. "Perhaps you could say I am German with American roots and very positive feelings about the USA and my life with two different backgrounds," phenom of the moment Julian Green says.

  • Presented without comment, other than "holy s&*t": Now, with comment: seven figures seems like an awful lot to spend to get Agudelo four months earlier. More details here.

  • Stop what you're doing and buy an ASN tee shirt. You won't be disappointed.

  • While we are promoting things, head over to Amazon and pick up James Montague's free e-book about Egypt, the Ultras, and a revolution.
