  • Landon Donovan weighed in on the U-17s’ failure to qualify for the World Cup. “It's disappointing. At the same time, there's no question with Olympic qualifying, 20s and 17s, we need to take a pretty honest look at what's going on, and we all have to do a better job,” Donovan said. “That falls on all of us. It's not one coach or a few coaches or certain players, it's everybody who's involved in soccer in this country.” Strong words there, but of all people, Donovan knows the value of youth tournaments.

  • Stuart Holden talked to Brian Sciaretta about his comeback and his desire to get back into the national team fold. Holden says he’s been in touch with Jurgen Klinsmann, who sent assistant Andreas Herzog to watch him play last week. “[Klinsmann] told me to push it as far as I can in terms of getting as many games as I can, keep working hard to push myself to higher levels and higher standards,” Holden said. “Hopefully at some point if I can keep playing games, I can be involved with something for the U.S. this summer.”

  • Sunil Gulati is facing off against Mexican counterpart Justino Compean for a seat on FIFA's executive committee. We'll know if he wins later on Friday. Everyone loves an election!

  • Alejando Bedoya scored and added an assist for Helsingborg on Thursday, his third goal and third assist in the season’s first seven games. His form could make him a hard man to omit if Klinsmann is seeking attack-minded midfield options come May. Helsingborg%20krossade%20Norrk%C3%B6ping
  • The city of Orlando spent $8.2 million to buy a plot of land for a new stadium for Orlando City Soccer Club. The proposed stadium will reportedly cost upwards of $110 million and groundbreaking could begin in December. 20th MLS team anybody?

  • In case you missed it yesterday, ASN’s Will Parchman poses the question “Is Jack McIerney the American Chicharito?” (Editor's Note: No.)
