  • Leander Schaerlaeckens ponders the U.S. talent pool after another failure to qualify for another youth tournament. “The base is incredibly wide, but the top end, where the serious talent is cultivated, is far too narrow,” he says, going on to compare the American system to that in Mexico, a comparison that's probably not entirely fair but certainly the easiest and a bellwether of some import. The point here is that the U.S. is falling behind, though we wonder if the rest of the world is just getting better faster.

  • Former Columbus Crew forward Guillermo Barros Schelotto hopes Robbie Rogers returns to soccer. "His private life is his business. But as far as those of us who are MLS fans, unfortunately the league loses a great soccer player.” For what it's worth, we imagine most of the American soccer community feels this way as well.

  • Michael Bradley went the full 90 and picked up a yellow card for Roma in a 2-1 win over Torino. He also had two shots and two fouls. Roma is tied on 51 points with Lazio for fifth place in Serie A and the final Europa League spot, and ahead on goal differential. Bradley should be in European soccer, no?

  • Fighting for a spot in the Champions League, Tim Howard and Everton visit Arsenal today. The Toffees currently sit in sixth place, just three points behind fourth-place Chelsea. Match is at 2:30 p.m. on Fox Soccer. You should watch. It's not like you'll be working or anything.

  • Real Madrid, Juventus, the Los Angeles Galaxy, and five other teams will play in a tournament this summer. Fun.

  • Joey Barton will not be fined for calling Thiago Silva an "overweight ladyboy" because of translation issues. That has absolutely nothing to do with American soccer, but it is hilarious.
