  • The CONCACAF Champions League semifinals get underway Tuesday night with the Sounders hosting Herculez Gomez and Mexican club Santos Laguna. Last year in the quarterfinals, Seattle beat Santos 2-1 at home only to get humiliated 6-1 in the return leg. Tonight’s match is on Fox Soccer at 10 p.m. ET. The Sounders have stumbled out of the gate in MLS play, taking just one point from their first four league ties.

  • Speaking of Gomez, he pulled off a pretty sweet April Fool’s prank: Followed up with “confirmation” from the Chivas USA account:

  • Stuart Holden talked about his first appearance for Sheffield Wednesday. “Nothing is like playing in a local derby game, running around, making a few challenges, getting up and down the pitch,” Holden told Steve Davis and Marc Stein. “To be able to come through that, that feeling of doing that, it makes you feel like a footballer again, that you really are back and that everything is great.”

  • Rangers boss Ally McCoist hopes Carlos Bocanegra returns to the Scottish squad at some point in the future.

  • Saturday’s loss dropped Aston Villa into the relegation zone with seven left to play, but Brad Guzan says the squad isn’t down on itself. “There is no lack of belief. We continue to stick together. We help each other. We continue to fight. There are a lot of points to play for.”
