Maurice Edu finally returns to Major League Soccer as he attempts to play himself onto the United States World Cup roster; Jermaine Jones might find a new club; Fabian Johnson has a hurt hand.

After weeks of speculation, Maurice Edu to the Philadelphia Union is a done deal, a one-year loan from Stoke City with an option to buy. Edu managed just one Premier League appearance for Stoke after moving to the club in the summer of 2012 amidst Rangers’ firesale. The MLS Rookie of the year in 2007 with Toronto, Edu joins the Union as a Designated Player. He’ll be introduced at a press conference today.
Word on the street is that the U.S. will play Mexico in a friendly in Phoenix in April. This wouldn’t be an FIFA fixture date, so we’d be looking at MLS and Liga MX players.
Hoffenheim’s press officer told ASN that Fabian Johnson would be out for “surely a couple of weeks” after breaking his hand Saturday, but Jurgen Klinsmann says otherwise. He spoke to Johnson, who had screws inserted in his right hand, and Johnson said he hopes to play this Saturday. Alrighty then.

The January transfer window closes Friday and Jermaine Jones is still looking for a new club. Klinsmann say he’s been in touch with Jones and believes the 32-year-old will find “another opportunity in Europe.”
