ASN Morning Read: All About Jurgen Klinsmann

The American boss is a star, perhaps the star of the United States team. Is that a good thing? Who knows, but it's fun because he's so darn charming. "I'm fantastic!"

  • Two headlines: How Jurgen Klinsmann Plans to Make U.S. Soccer Better (and Less American) and With His Eye on the World Cup, a German Coach Overhauls Team USA. Both articles are excellent, in-depth profiles of the United States coach and how he's attempted to remake the American squad in his image. No one is exactly sure what that image is. We'll find out, one way or another, in Brazil.

  • Last week, the U.S. went to Times Square. They made a video:
  • Colorado Rapids goalkeeper Clint Irwin writes about being a professional American soccer player who is not going to the World Cup: "Unlike most American fans, who have already penciled in the dates of our games against Ghana, Portugal, and Germany, I’m not sure if I’ll even have a chance to watch live. I want to, of course, but there are no guarantees that practice, travel, or my team’s matches won’t interfere. Like most people with a day job, I’d like to support my co-workers, but you know how it is—sometimes your own meetings get in the way."

  • Would you rather have the 2010 World Cup squad or the 2014 one? Blake Thomsen investigates: All in all, it’s difficult to deny the superiority of the 2014 squad as compared to the 2010 team. The margins would be far closer had Davies and Onyewu not been injured in the lead-up to the World Cup, but the loss of those two stars severely damaged the team that played in South Africa.

  • Along those lines, would you like to know how the 1934 U.S. team compared to the 1950 one? Good because here's an extremely subjective ranking of the best American teams at the World Cup. Spoiler alert: It never ends well.

  • Everyone (read: some people) want a Clint Dempsey jersey. The 15th most popular is Diego Fagúndez. Diego Fagúndez?!?
