  • A game-winner:

  • A good summary: "Let’s be clear here, the result does not at all represent the quality of play. The United States were disorganized and disconnected. Alyssa Naeher had a very bad night. The attack once again suffered from a lack of distribution out of the middle to connect the defense and forwards. Some of the forwards didn’t make good decisions around the goal. Megan Rapinoe was probably a good 50% if not a full two-thirds of the attack. And all of that stacked against a Brazil that honestly wasn’t that sharp. Their set pieces clearly outclassed the United States on the day, but other than that they looked like a side that could have gotten turned on their heads by a team with a better ability to possess. If Jill Ellis is intent on having people examine her process rather than her results, this was certainly fuel for those who think US results come in spite of her process."

  • Love goals:
  • And tifos:
  • Is, like, every other midfielder in the world busy?: "D.C. United is deep in discussions about acquiring Nigel de Jong, a two-time Dutch World Cup midfielder with an impressive portfolio but an infamous reputation.De Jong, 32, is reportedly on his way out of Turkish club Galatasaray after one season and, according to sources familiar with the situation, has been approached by United about returning to MLS before the league transfer window closes next week."

  • It's MLS All-Star break and here's a good summation of where the teams stand.

  • Zusi at right back: "Sporting Kansas City’s Graham Zusi hasn’t even played 20 regular-season games since moving from his longtime home on the wing to right back, but it already looks like the switch is paying off for the 30-year-old. Zusi has transitioned smoothly to SKC's back four, playing a big role on a defense that’s conceded a league-best 17 goals in 22 games. He’s still got his attacking chops, too, recording three assists in 17 MLS appearances and setting up Benny Feilhaber’s goal in SKC’s 3-2 win against Chicago on Saturday. The move has also given the 2017 MLS All-Star a bit of a new lease on life with the US national team."
