ASN Morning Read: A Copa America to Rule Them All

We're still talking about a combined COMNEBOL-CONCACAF 2016 Copa America, which is fun because we get to use old pictures of Brad Guzan. Elsewhere, another big game for Jozy Altidore is on the horizon.

  • The 2016 Copa America in the United States is apparently still in the works, but as has been the case for the past year-and-a-half, it seems CONMEBOL is getting ahead of itself. A report out of Spain echoes most of the details we’ve heard previously about the tournament, but adds that venues have already been chosen. They include the Rose Bowl, Stanford Stadium, MetLife Stadium, the Citrus Bowl, RFK Stadium (ugh), and Reliant Stadium. However, a CONCACAF source told ESPN FC that the report is "premature" and that plenty of details still need to be ironed out. The tournament would need FIFA approval so that clubs are obligated to release their players and Euro 2016 will be happening too, which further complicates things.

  • Sunderland hosts Manchester United in the first leg of the Capital One Cup semifinals today. Can Jozy Altidore build off his strong showing over the weekend? You can catch the match at 2:30 p.m. ET on beIN Sport.

  • Travis Clark, the newest member of the ASN 100 editorial panel talks about his inaugural rankings. He’s got Sacha Kljestan at No. 5, Jermaine Jones all the way down at No. 17 and some pretty solid arguments to back those rankings up.

  • CONCACAF officially set the dates for the Champions League quarterfinals. The eighth-seeded Earthquakes are the first of the three MLS teams in action, hosting Toluca on March 11 at 10 p.m. ET. The next night, Sporting Kansas City takes on Cruz Azul at Sporting Park and the Galaxy hosts Tijuana. Second-leg action takes place the next week, with Los Angeles-Tijuana on the 18th and the other two MLS teams on the 19th.
